Use downtown as an orientation point, then map the actual destinations that matter to you. I-69 runs along the west and north sides of the metro; US 30, US 24 and the city’s major corridors shape cross-town trips. Compare a complete week of travel before choosing a home.
Read the city by corridors
Lima Road and the Dupont area are useful north-side reference points. West Jefferson and Illinois Road help orient a southwest or west-side search. Coliseum Boulevard serves several north and east connections. These are broad directions, not neighborhood boundaries or travel-time guarantees.
For a scouting trip, use the same departure time, workplace entrance and parking arrangement you would use after moving. Include a grocery stop and the trip home. Check construction and weather information before relying on a route.

Build a route, not an assumption
Citilink is the local public transportation starting point. Review the exact route, operating days, service hours, transfers and stop access for both directions of your trip. A nearby bus stop is useful only if its schedule works for your destination.
If you plan to walk or cycle, inspect sidewalk continuity, crossings, trail connections and the last stretch to the door. Recreational trails are valuable, but a trail on a map is not automatically a complete commuting route.

Flying from Fort Wayne
Fort Wayne International Airport (FWA) is at 3801 W. Ferguson Road, south of the city center. Use the airport’s current parking and ground-transportation pages before a trip; confirm airline check-in instructions and leave time for your own circumstances.
Check the live destination list before buying a ticket. Some routes are seasonal, and a connection may be the practical option. When comparing Indianapolis, Detroit or Chicago airports, include ground travel, parking, an overnight stay if needed, and the return journey—not just the airfare.

A useful thirty-minute planning exercise

Start with where you work.
These are geographic starting points for a route comparison. They are not recommendations about who belongs in an area. Test each journey at your shift time, including the return trip.
