Northwest Fort Wayne

From park days around Franke Park to homes along the Lima–Dupont corridor, explore the northwest setting that feels like your fresh start.

THE FIVE-MINUTE VERSION

Northwest Fort Wayne covers very different settings. The Lima and Dupont corridors orient an outer-northwest search, while Franke Park sits closer to the city on the Sherman and Goshen Road side. Salomon Farm Park adds a historic farm landscape near Dupont. These anchors help separate choices that a broad northwest listing label can otherwise blur.

The homes to look for

In a newer subdivision, review grading, drainage, warranty records, and any unfinished roads or common areas. In an established property, compare the remaining life of the roof and mechanical systems. Ask who maintains nearby paths and ponds and whether the home has an association or ongoing development obligations.

Picture an ordinary Tuesday

Try the trip between a prospective home, its regular shopping route, and the park you would use most. Salomon Farm offers a paved loop around its farm setting; Franke Park has woodland hiking and mountain-bike trails as well as paved connections. A home nearer one does not automatically provide a convenient route to the other.

Things to consider

Major-road access may be useful for driving while making a short walk less direct. Test the specific entrance, signal, and crossing that connect the property to Lima or Dupont.

Our descriptions are editorial orientation. They do not establish current prices, inventory, commute times, school quality, or safety. Rent/buy and affordability depend on the actual property and your full household budget.

Make your visit count

  • Drive the property's actual route to Lima or Dupont rather than relying on distance alone.
  • Compare a Salomon Farm visit with a Franke Park visit.
  • Inspect any claimed trail connection from the subdivision itself.

Bring the same questions to each area on your shortlist. Compare the routes, costs, and responsibilities you would actually live with, then revisit the places that remain promising.

NEWER HOMES. REAL PLACES TO INVESTIGATE.

Put newer neighborhoods on your scouting route.

Start with a real community, then compare the exact lot and completed home. These examples help orient your search; they are not a complete inventory, a builder ranking, or paid placements.

Huntertown area

The Pines

Off Kell Road in the Huntertown area.

Start with the subdivision entrance, then drive the route to Lima Road and your regular errands. Compare completed homes with the construction still happening nearby.

Ask on your visit: Ask which landscaping, sidewalk and neighboring-lot work will be finished when you move in.

Huntertown / northwest Allen County

Rolling Oaks

Off Shoaff Road, east of State Road 3 / Lima Road.

Use Shoaff Road as your starting point. Compare the lot, floor plan and road connections with the other northwest communities on your list.

Ask on your visit: Test the school and work routes from the actual lot; a community name cannot establish an assignment or commute.

A few places to put on your map

Schools & address checks

The northwest geographic label is broader than NACS. NACS publishes current elementary maps and new middle-school boundaries for 2026–27; closer-in addresses may require FWCS lookup instead. This guide makes no individual school assignment.

A couple of useful questions.

Does 'northwest Fort Wayne' mean Northwest Allen County Schools?

The area label alone does not identify a school corporation. Use NACS's current residency and boundary maps or FWCS's address lookup, as appropriate to the property. A marketing description or nearby school building is not an assignment.

Which is the better starting point for a paved farm loop or wooded trails?

Salomon Farm Park is the farm-setting option with a paved loop. Franke Park offers woodland hiking and mountain-bike trails along with paved connections. Choose the outing first, then test its actual route from the home.
